Singöfjärden
X-rayed sediment cores.
Two of the X-rayed sediment cores where sampled in this coastal basin in 1978, one core in 1979, and four cores in 1982. The uppermost part of one of these cores, sampled on 2 August 1982, is shown below.

Radiograph of the uppermost, very gas-rich part of core 835 from a depth of 48 m in Singöfjärden.
This core expanded after sampling due to the formation and expansion of gas bubbles, which resulted from the reduced hydrostatic pressure and temperature rise. The expansion amounted to 4.4 cm about one day after samling (increase in core length from 53.4 to 57.8 cm = 8 %).
At this coring site the mean values of the wet and dry bulk density and the loss on ignition amounted to 1.05, 0.078 and 14.1 % respectively for the upper 0.3 m of sediment. The salinity, the density , and the pH of the bottom water in the coring tube was 5.76 , 1.005 and 7.45 respectively.
