BABYLON 5
It was the dawn of the Third Age of Mankind.....ten years after the Earth-Minbari war.
The Babylon Project was our last, best hope for peace. It failed. It was the end of history, and the time when we took back that which was ours. This is the story of perhaps the last of the truly great space-operas to emerge out of late 20th century american television.
The name of the show is Babylon 5.
I first became aware of Babylon 5 when Channel 5 (What else?) began airing the show on swedish television in the autumn of 1994. I can still remember how I sat on the sofa in front of the TV and felt the hairs on the back of my neck rise as I heard the opening monologue;
It was the dawn of the Third Age of Mankind.....ten years after the Earth-Minbari war.
I almost instantly knew that this might be really good. And it was. Now, slightly more than four years later I still get goosebumps every time I see the intro to each episode. Although they´ve changed the opening monologue five times, once for each season, I still think that it might be quite possible the
finest opening sequences I have ever seen, rivalled only by the one in Terminator 2 for sheer hackle-raising, skin-prickling, goosebump-producing, sphincter-loosening splendour. What can I say, I´m a sucker for a moody voice-over and nice, stellar graphics.
