Problem:

File server (PDC) + Exchange server crashed with a blue screen.

Recovery attempt, diagnose:

Local administrator did read back from band incorrectly. System could not start. I did read back system partition from backup band once more; system still could not start on Primary Domain Controller  "fileserver-fs"

Status 1999 06 28: Administrator Password locally to all servers and workstations is missing. No ERD disks are available for any PC. No original bootable CD-ROM with NT server or Exchange server software is available, no license to NT server or Exchange server. No backup on Exchange server. PDC and Exchange servers are not recoverable. Network is down.

Decision: (agreed with new VD Magnus Lund & Account manager Andrew V, consulted with Klas Kempe)

Rebuild AIC Network according to the following plan:

Solution

- New PC Dell Dimension Pentium II -350 MHz is to be set up with 128 SDRAM, 2 X 9 GB (Quantum Atlas III, Quantum Atlas IV SCSI disks, Adaptec 2940 U/W-pro SCSI card. Configured as NT server stand-alone with Exchange server 5,5 + service pack 2. Hardware is to be purchased. Attention! Available software - BackOffice option for only 10 client licenses.

- In the same time old Exchange PC is to be rebuild with 2 X 8 GB IDE disks. Configured as NT server, PDC, file server. Following services is to be configured: DHCP, WINS, DNS. Catalogue structure, shares, Login bat, Sam database is to be rebuilt.

- One SCSI disk with Economy data and Users catalogs is to be moved and configured to newly installed Mail server.

Old PDC with 2 X 1 GB disks is to be reconfigured to BDC and Print server.

8 workstation is to be reinstalled with NT 4 + service pack 4, Office professional with Outlook client, Explorer 5, Total Defence Antivirus program, mappings, is to be installed and configured.

4 Client PC with Windows 95 is to be reconfigured with new domain and Exchange server.

Coala PC (Database) is to be reconfigured with a new domain.

WWW server with all programs is to be reinstalled and reconfigured as a stand-alone and is to be part of a new domain.

4 PC is to be physically moved to a new location (part of a personal reshuffle designed by new VD)

Cables topology is to be redesigned.

3COM 10 ports HUB is to be borrowed from Datavis.

Estimated time: 40 hours

Actual time: (Alexander Monday - Friday 50 hours, Saturday - 13 hours, Sunday - 4 hours) = 67 hours, Klas Kempe - 6 hours, Johan Wiman (Klas) -14 hours

Totally: 87 hours

Status 99 07 05, 9.30: OK, The network is running, however only 10 concurrent Outlook connections is possible for now. Sharp Licensed CD-ROM is needed to Exchange site to function properly.
