Gabriela Gutarra is a well-known and established dancer, choreographer and teacher in
Sweden, working mainly with flamenco. Her stage productions has more than once
been attracting attention in the media throughout the country and the reviews are often
very good.

Gabriela gained her education in Spanish dancing in Seville and Madrid with dancers
and teachers such as Manola Marín, Milagros Menjibar, Paco Romero, Pedro Azorín and
Carmen Cortéz.

Since 1991 Gabriela lives permanently in Sweden working with various stage
productions and projects involving musicians and dancers from all over the world, she
has been performing and producing at some of the main theatres in the country. In 1993
the Flamenco Centre was established in Stockholm, a centre for teaching and stage
producing run by Gabriela.

In 1996 she was engaged by the Royal Swedish Theatre as a dancer and
choreographer in their production of a Greek drama in which flamenco was combined
with Arabian rhythms. The following year Gabriela produced the performance Gao Caló
in which she was working with sixteen artists from India, Egypt and Spain with the
support of the National Council of Cultural Affairs. In 2000 she produced and
choreographed Malambo on one of the major stages for new and contemporary dancing
in Stockholm (Dansens Hus). This was another multi cultural performance combining
rhythms and dancing from Argentina with flamenco. Gabriela has also made some ten
well acclaimed performances on her own or together with other artists in which she is
playing with dancing and rhythms from various cultures.

Gabriela is often working with different themes, for example the feminine aspect of
flamenco as in The Flamenco Woman in 2001, or the meeting of different cultures or
rhythms. She would like to go beyond the conventional flamenco performance by giving
the dance an intellectual aspect and by combining different forms of art. Her aim is to
create anew an interesting flamenco that enrich both the experience of the Swedish
audience and her own development as an artist.
