World Show in Amsterdam 2002:

King of the World!

The Glenna's famous standard poodle made history when he won BIS at the World Show. Never before has the same dog won BIS at both the World Show and Crufts. Judge in the BIS finale was Martin van der Weijer from the hosting country.

We decided already in 2001 to show King abroad during 2002. We planned Crufts, the World Show and the Euro Dog Show. That we would arrive in Amsterdam as the favourites, was nothing we had anticipated. Certainly after winning Crufts, King was the favourite for BIS at the World Show, and everyone came to watch. We were a bit worried, when we experienced a change of judge on the day. Mrs. Clotz from Germany judged the breed. After a long day of judging she found her Breed winner in a certain white dog from Norway and a Finnish bitch for BOS. It felt like everyone was ringside for BOB. Everyone wanted to see if he looked as they had seen previously or in pictures.

The group was judged by Peter Prins from the Netherlands. He was a true friend of Norway, as all three placings went to Norwegian dogs! Third was the Toy Poodle Ch Solnes Rain Dance and the second place went to the Bichon Frisé Ch Petit Ami's Braveheart. These three dogs have had many tough battles in the Norwegian groups the last two years..

We had a very nice party that evening with lots of tasty food and drinks. All Scandinavian poodle friends that had travelled to Amsterdam celebrated with us. It was a fantastic night that seemed to never end...The next day was BIS day

We had not received any information about what time BIS was on. If we had known, we would probably have arrived to the venue a bit later, the BIS was to be judged at 8.30 that night! Long, nervous wait and a lot of time for show preparations, before, we, the group winners, were ready to enter the blue carpet. King showed like never before and was better than ever in his show trim. After his usual sneezing and yawning, he pulled himself together and started to show. The information about that the judge was an old man with his own ideas, we had heard from several people. He started to sort through the dogs with a strange ring procedure. King seemed to not touch the carpet when he made his last circle.

Time of decision. The Danish Pulik was called for to the Reserve placement and the symbol for the ultimate win was carried into the centre of the ring, the magnificent rosette. By now, I have to admit, it was really nervous. The speaker announced: BIS at the World Show 2002 is going to Scandinavia, to Norway, it is the Standard Poodle! It was a popular decision, everyone cheered. All group winners came up to congratulate. After a lap of honour it was time for the photographers. It is quite flattering when people are fighting to photograph you..

We had a very nice World Show and it was nice that so many of our Scandinavian friends were there to experience it. The Glenna's and myself were by ourselves at Crufts, but in Amsterdam we had many to share our happiness and success with. Also, Amsterdam proved to be the perfect place to celebrate all night!

It was a fantastic journey and an unforgettable show was ended. King had proven once again that he is one of the great!
