A favorite genre at the time, and it still is! Action classics like The Warriors, Mad Max, Mad Max II and Escape from New York inspired these films that are mostly about one hero leading his gang or community in battle against a corrupt or fascist society, or against vicious rival gangs. Examples of this are Enzo G. Castellari's 1990-I guerrieri del Bronx (Bronx Warriors, 1982), Giuliano Carmineo's Il giustiziere della strada (Exterminators of the Year 3000, 1983) and Tonino Ricci's Rush (1983). Other films like Lucio Fulci's I guerrieri dell'anno 2072 (Rome 2072 A.D.-The New Gladiators, 1983) and Aristide Massaccesi's Endgame-Bronx lotta finale (Endgame, 1983) are about future TV gameshows where prisoners have to fight for their lives - All to get the TV companies high ratings.
