Mattias von Wachenfeldt was born in Stockholm in 1972. He studied the classical guitar with Geir-Otto Nilsson and Sven Londestad at the Oslo College, Conservatory of Music (OCÉM), from where he graduated in 1997. Mattias was awarded the second prize at the prestigious Norwegian Guitar Competition 1995, with a program which included three movements from Koshkin's the Prince's Toys Suite.

In the late autumn of 1995 Mattias was awarded a scholarship to study with the internationally known concertguitarist John Mills at the University of Wales, Cardiff There he also met the composer George Rodosthenous and that was when their collaboration began.

He has given recitals and concerts all over Scandinavia and Great Britain, both as chamber musician and as solo guitarist. He has also made recordings for Swedish radio and television. "Guitar Music from the twentieth century" is Mattias von Wachenfeldt's debute CD.
