ozai in the name Tozai Design means east and west. The idea is to let the simple and natural beauty of Asian interior design influence our western homes and to let the eastern and western styles blend together into an exciting and exquisite mix.

Due to my life being divided between living in the east and the west, I have had the opportunity to experience and study both life styles closely. I have spent 15 years living in Japan and Korea and 15 years living in Sweden. My interest for interior decorating is inherited from my mother, who during my childhood years brought me to hundreds of fantastic furniture shops and flea markets all throughout Asia. These shopping sprees resulted in our home being decorated with an exquisite mixture of Asian and Western furniture. As a child it gave me an exciting and thrilling feeling of having one foot in the Asian culture and the other foot in the Western culture.

In Scandinavia, the idea of simplicity and natural beauty within interior design has been prevalent a long time. The Scandinavian countries have, however, never been a colonial country as France and Britain and the influence thereby from, for example Asia, has been minimal. Scandinavia has now started to open its eyes to the East and the interest for Asian philosophy, religion, arts and design is on the rise. This is not surprising since the praise for purity and simplicity in both cultures are closely related. The combination of the Scandinavian interior decorating with the Asian is a trend crescendo within interior design, focusing on the concept of simplicity and natural beauty.

With this in mind, Tozai Design would like to share the pleasure of owning a piece of Asia in your own home. For example a traditional wooden step chest furniture to greet you everytime you come home, or maybe some beautiful Japanese tableware to serve your guests your homemade sushi on next time they come for dinner.
