Shoji;
Rice papper windows - from Japan Shoji have traditionally been used as interior partitions in Japanese homes. Later they were used as outer walls to screen out the hot sun, without making the home overly dark. The light through shoji gives a rare tranquility not found in ordinary light. For this reason, shojis are still highly appreciated in Japanese home decoration today. Outside of Japan, shoji have found new uses and new locations in the home. They can be used as partitions as well as creating a sensual atmosphere in -for example a bedroom. And if you feel your neighbors can peek in through your windows, the shoji is an excellent shield to gain privacy. |
